SFD - Schutz FahrzeugDiagnose= Vehicle Diagnostic Protection

Please note for the new MQB Platform cars there is a new security protocol

Bottom line as at 12th June 2020 you can only scan one of these cars with your OBD11 / VCDS Application's,

VCP Have a work around in the latest release but this will be replaced with a proper end to end system (as will OBD11 and VCDS) upgrade.

This extra security is to help stop hacking of your car (which will almost certainly be connected to the internet going forward) but also has the ability to tell VAG Head office what changes you have made to the car.

Time will tell the true motive of this change - eg as stated above plus making all retrofits only possible via an Authorised dealer.

However what we have learnt from the gaming industry every time new anti tamper software is introduced, somebody will be working on cracking it much as the tuning companies do to the ECU's today.

For you information I have attached a document talking about the changes in relation to ODIS

20/05/20 - I have seen on a couple Audi threads where guys have been replacing the dashboard and finding the Brake Long Coding is all wiped back to 0000000 - As always make sure you have taken a backup before yo make changes.

List of features that you may not be aware off

1/ Workshop number which can be found under Main Menu / Settings

Workshop number is the code which is showing where coding or adaptations was changed.

Every official workshop have it's own code and VAG service can identify where changes were made.

OBD11 used to use the code 12345 for all changes, now you can enter your own code.

Also you can read out workshop code from control unit for changes applied by regulated guarage (like service reset) and use it as your standard.

This way the dealer will not know that coding was changed using OBD11.

2/ Freeze Frame Data which can be found under Main Menu / Settings / Scan Settings
This will add additional info about any trouble code i.e. mileage, speed, rpm etc. but on the downside it does slow the process down

3/ Car Software Version check

OBD11 Now Check's for control unit software version update (Visible in control unit info screen, this info is for information only. It shows if there are newer software detected in there database for control unit with same Software number)

4/ Full Backup now possible

In version 15.0 they have introduced a full backup so you can do a one by one backup or you can run a single option that back's up all control units.

5/ Landscape / Portrait view now possible
In the settings screen it is now possible to define either Landscape or Portrait setup for the obd11 screen - useful if you are displaying info on your car radio screen.

6/ Not Connected to internet you now get a warning
If you are logging on to the car and your phone / tablet is not connected to the internet you will now get a red line at the bottom of the screen
with the following error message Check network connection and try again.

7/ change dongle color new dongle allows you to change the color but you have to be connected to the dongle to make the change check out here for full details
